Like many other CIS warships, the Captor-class heavy weapons cruiser originated from civilian cargo ship designs. Initially used to transport Bacta for the Trade Federation, the Captor-class was later converted into a massive weapons platform or a carrier for starfighters at the onset of the Clone Wars. To maximize cargo space, its weapon systems were reduced to a minimum—making it best suited for use in the rear lines of a fleet.
